Europe is Far Away
Auswahlprogramme osteuropäischer Videokunst15. Juli bis 29. August 1994 in der Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland
In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Bauhaus Dessau und dem dortigen Festival Ostrananie wurden 5 Auswahlprogramme osteuropäischer Videokunst zusammengestellt. Die Videoarbeiten sind sowohl Bestandsaufnahme des aktuellen Schaffens, als auch Retrospektive verschiedener osteuropäischer Länder und Künstler.
Dieser Querschnitt ist authentische Beschreibung und künstlerische Umsetzung der neuen osteuropäischen Realitäten und Umwälzungsprozesse der vergangenen Jahre. Die Arbeiten reflektieren einerseits die veränderten Lebensverhältnisse in der Ernüchterungsphase nach der Euphorie der Demokratisierung, andererseits wird versucht, die vergangenen politischen Ereignisse audiovisuell aufzuarbeiten und der eigenen Identität und Zukunft zu ste

Selection of Eastern European video art
July 15 through August 29, 1994 at the Art and Exhibitions Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bonn
In co-operation with the Bauhaus Dessau and the local festival Ostrananie, five programmes of selected works of Eastern European video art were compiled. The video works were both a stock-taking of the actual work and a retrospective on different Eastern European countries and artists.
This selection provides an authentic description and artistic realisation of the new Eastern European realities and of the processes of change over the past years. On one hand, the works reflect the change in the conditions of living during the phase of sobering-up after the euphoria of democratisation, on the other hand, there’s the attempt to deal with the past political events audio-visually and to face one’s own identity and future.
