Das Geschenk
Jochen Gerz plant für die Dauer von "vision.ruhr" auf dem Gelände der ehemaligen Zeche Zollern II/IV die Einrichtung eines digitalen Fotostudios und einer Rahmenwerkstatt. Das Fotostudio bietet jedem Besucher die Möglichkeit, eine digitale Fotografie (unentgeltlich) durch einen professionellen Fotografen und nach Maßgabe des Künstlers Gerz von sich anfertigen zu lassen, die anschließend in der Rahmenwerkstatt gerahmt wird. Schätzungsweise werden auf diese Weise ca. 10.000 Porträts in einer Größe von je ca. 50 x 60 cm entstehen. Auf der Rückseite eines jeden Fotos werden exakte Angaben wie etwa Entstehungsdatum oder laufende Nummer des Porträts vermerkt sowie ein Zertifikat zum Entstehungskontext angebracht. Der Besucher erhält als Geschenk allerdings nicht sein eigenes Porträt, sondern das Foto einer anderen Person, das nach einem Zufallsprinzip ausgewählt wird. Das Abbild einer fremden Person wird somit im privatem Raum des Beschenkten zum Symbol der sozialen Interaktion des uneigennützigen Gebens.English Text:
For the duration of the exhibition “vision.ruhr” on the premises of the former mine Zollern ll/lV in Dortmund, Jochen Gerz is planning the set-up of a digital photo studio and a frame workshop. The photo studio offers every visitor the possibility to get a photograph taken for free by a professional photographer according to the artist’s instructions, which will be framed afterwards in the workshop.
It is estimated that some 10 000 portraits of appx. 50 by 60 cm will taken. The back of each photograph will contain exact specifications, such as the date and serial number of the portrait, as well as a certificate about the context of production.
However, visitors will not receive their own portrait as a gift, but rather a randomly chosen portrait of another person. The image of a stranger in the recipient’s private space thus becomes a symbol of the social interaction of unselfish giving.
